Funders are placing increasing importance on both the proper management and the eventual sharing of research data. Most notably, NSF requires a formal data management plan to be included with all proposals. In response to this new requirement the Sheridan Libraries offers data management planning services to JHU researchers. The Sheridan Libraries are well positioned to provide this service and support as expertise and infrastructure continues to be developed through its leadership of Data Conservancy, an NSF-funded cyberinfrastructure initiative. Specifically, the JHU Data Management Services include the following:

• Proposal Data Management Planning support - Expert guidance preparing data management plans tailored for standards in specific fields and specific funder requirements, including evaluation of data sharing options and best practices for data's integrity and security.
  • Archiving of Research Data - If desired, once a JHU researcher has been awarded a grant, research data may be preserved and shared through the JHU Data Archive, a state-of-the-art research data repository operated by JHU DMS. A project's grant can fund data preservation, web-based sharing, and citation, through five years post project completion, and consultative support for preparing data for the archive.

Further information on data management planning and the JHU Data Management Services can be found at: http://dmp.data.jhu.edu/. For help with an upcoming proposal or other research data management questions, please contact the JHU Data Management Services group at datamanagement@jhu.edu.
