RPA Contacts
University Research Projects Administration (RPA) serves as the university’s central research administration office. RPA reports to Scott Zeger, Vice Provost for Research and is headed by Cheryl-Lee Howard, Assistant Provost for Research Administration.
RPA is comprised of four operations:
Sponsored Projects Administration, led by Holly Benze, Director, is responsible for pre-award and some post-award matters for the Whiting School of Engineering, the Carey Business School, the School of Education, the Peabody School of Music, the School of Advanced International Studies, as well as for all Centers and Institutes reporting through those schools or the Office of the Provost.
Compliance and Interdivisional Research Services, led by Mike Alexander, Compliance Officer and Executive Assistant to the Assistant Provost for Research Administration, is responsible for research compliance issues, for the coordination of interdivisional initiatives, and for security clearance administration.
The Export Control Office, under the direction of Frank Barker, Export Control Officer, oversees compliance with Departments of State, Commerce and Treasury regulations governing the export of technology, information and financial resources.
The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) under the leadership of Bob Taylor, Acting Director, maintains information systems related to Research Administration including COEUS and designs/develops reporting on the proposal and award processes. It is the primary liaison with federal and private electronic processing systems such as grants.gov.
